Senegalese Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Ankara on Thursday as both nations moved to strengthen cooperation across key sectors.

During the visit, Sonko also held talks with Numan Kurtulmus, speaker of Turkey’s parliament.

The two countries signed four agreements covering defense, media, and education, in a bid to deepen bilateral relations, according to Turkey’s communications office.

Erdogan has previously visited Senegal twice, in 2018 and 2020, as part of Ankara’s broader push to expand its presence in Africa.

Turkish Airlines has played a role in boosting ties, while Turkey’s advanced military technology, particularly drones, has made it a significant defense partner for several African states.
