The Senator representing Jigawa Northwest, Babangida Hussain, has launched the free distribution of 12,000 bags of 50kg fertilizer to farmers across his constituency as part of his empowerment initiative.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony held at the Sule Tankarkar Local Government Secretariat on Monday, Senator Babangida said the distribution aims to support farmers in boosting agricultural production during the current rainy season.
He emphasized that fertilizer remains a key component in modern farming, adding that he is working with federal agencies to ensure its availability and affordability.
According to the Senator, each of the 12 local government areas in his constituency will receive one truckload of fertilizer for distribution at the polling unit level, while an additional eight trucks have been allocated to farmers’ associations to enhance group farming capacity.
“For the polling unit distribution, our priority is members of our political party, the APC, while the remaining eight trucks are designated for farmers’ associations to strengthen their productivity,” Babangida explained.
Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of the Northwest Development Commission, Professor Abdullah I. Shehu Ma’aji, noted that the initiative aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda focused on food security, poverty eradication, and job creation. He assured continued implementation of projects that promote socio-economic growth in the region.
Speaking on behalf of the 12 local government chairmen, Hon. Tasiu Adamu of Sule Tankarkar LGA thanked the Senator and pledged transparent and fair distribution.
“We will deploy all necessary mechanisms to ensure that the fertilizer reaches the right farmers and party members to achieve the desired outcomes,” Adamu assured.
