A faction of the Sokoto State branch of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) under the leadership of its Deputy Chairman, Alhaji Bashir Attahiru Goronyo has formed an alliance with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The faction comprises some of its state executives, candidates for the National and state assemblies; as well as executives at the local government level, Tambuwal’s spokesperson, Muhammad Bello disclosed in a statement on Friday.
According to the statement, Goronyo while speaking at the ceremony held at Government House, Sokoto, said the decision to form an alliance with the PDP was a result of the good leadership quality of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal and the state PDP gubernatorial candidate, Alhaji Saidu Umar.
Adding that, Malam Umar is a reputable banker and a committed candidate who enjoys the support of many voters in the state.
He promised that his faction of the SDP will work harmoniously with the PDP in order to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election, adding that, their supporters from state and local government levels unanimously agreed to form the alliance so as to bring development in the state
In his address, the PDP gubernatorial candidate, Malam Umar thanked the SDP faction for making the right decision of supporting the PDP.
He assured them of equal treatment now that they have joined the PDP, promising that, if he is elected as Governor, he will bring more development to the state.
In his remarks, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said the alliance is very important and commended them for taking the decision to support PDP in the forthcoming Gubernatorial and state assembly elections.
He added that he acknowledges their contribution and hopes that their alliance will give more victory to the PDP in the state.
Tambuwal urged them to go to every nook and cranny of the state so as to enlighten the people and seek more support from them so that they will elect Malam Saidu Umar as governor of the state.
