SASAKAWA Africa Engages Stakeholders on Regenerative Agriculture

SASAKAWA Africa Association, in collaboration with Giz, recently held a two-day workshop on Regenerative Agriculture at the R&K Guest Palace in Kano.

The objectives of the workshop were to showcase the successful integration of regenerative and sustainable agriculture principles in extension services by the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), identify actionable steps for incorporating these principles into national curricula and policies, and engage stakeholders, including Green Colleges, Agricultural Development Programs (ADPs), Federal Department of Agriculture (FDA), Federal Department of Agricultural Extension (FDAE), and private extension services.

In his opening remarks, the Country Director of SASAKAWA Africa Association, Dr. Godwin Atser said that SAA works with local Farmers in Regenerative Agriculture, as a method of Agriculture that uses technologies to improve livelihoods and wealth. 

Dr. Andrea Ruediger, the Cluster Coordinator, Transformation of Agri-Food Systems who spoke via video said the primary goal of the workshop and field day was to foster collaboration among multi-actor platforms, public and private extension services, and green colleges in promoting regenerative and sustainable agriculture.

The event included interactive sessions and field visits to sites demonstrating successful regenerative agriculture practices, offering participants hands-on experience and real-world examples.

The field visits were followed by debrief sessions to link field experiences to workshop content.

Participants at the workshop were drawn from Policymakers, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Federal Depart of Agriculture (FDA), Federal Depart of Agriculture and Extension (FDAE), Universities, Green Colleges, Agro Processors, Produce groups, and Agricultural Development Programs (ADPs) based on their knowledge, skills, experience in Regenerative Agriculture and their expected roles and responsibilities in agricultural transformation in Nigeria.
