The Sudanese army has confirmed that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) carried out a drone strike on the eastern city of Port Sudan, marking the first such attack on the strategic coastal hub since the conflict began in 2023.

According to military sources, the RSF targeted the Osman Digna Air Base, an ammunition depot, and civilian infrastructure near the airport. While damage was reported, there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The assault has disrupted air travel, prompting the suspension of all flights in and out of the city.

A passenger flight from Dubai was diverted to Saudi Arabia as a result of the strike.

This attack represents a major escalation in the ongoing war, striking a city that had previously been considered a safe zone and the de facto seat of the government.

Port Sudan has served as a refuge for thousands of people displaced by the conflict between the army and RSF.
