Cristiano Ronaldo is on the verge of signing a new contract with Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr, according to Saudi sources who spoke to BBC Sport.
The 40-year-old Portugal captain’s current deal was set to expire at the end of June, but a two-year extension is reportedly close to completion, keeping him at the Riyadh-based club until at least 2027.
Speculation about Ronaldo’s future intensified after he posted “the chapter is over” on social media following Al-Nassr’s final league game last month.
His message sparked rumors of a possible departure, especially after FIFA President Gianni Infantino suggested Ronaldo could join a Club World Cup team, since Al-Nassr failed to qualify for the expanded tournament in the United States.
However, Ronaldo has since revealed he received offers from participating clubs but declined them.
Fresh off Portugal’s UEFA Nations League triumph two weeks ago, the former Real Madrid, Manchester United, and Juventus star appears committed to remaining in Saudi Arabia.
Reports also suggest he is exploring personal sports investment opportunities in the Gulf region.
Since joining Al-Nassr in 2023 following his departure from Manchester United, Ronaldo has been a dominant force, scoring 99 goals in 111 appearances.
Last season alone, he netted 35 goals in 41 matches, earning the Saudi Pro League’s Golden Boot.
In a related development, Al-Nassr announced the departure of manager Stefano Pioli earlier on Wednesday.
The Italian coach, who took charge less than a year ago, guided the team to a third-place finish, 13 points behind league winners Al-Ittihad.
Pioli is now expected to return to Fiorentina.
Ronaldo thanked the outgoing manager in a social media post, writing, “Thanks for everything,” following confirmation of Pioli’s exit.
BBC Sport has reached out to Ronaldo’s representatives for official comment on the contract extension.
