Rano Local Government Area in Kano state has begun the free distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito nets to over 200,000 households.
The effort is a major step to tackle malaria and safeguard public health in the council.
Flagging off the distribution exercise at Kofar Fada on Friday, the Chairman of Rano LGA, Malam Naziru Yau, commended the Kano State Government and the Society for Family Health (SFH) for bringing the life-saving intervention to the grassroots.
Malam Yau emphasized that the initiative would significantly reduce malaria cases, especially among high-risk groups such as pregnant women and children under five.
Also speaking at the event, the Primary Healthcare Coordinator, Yau Musa Durum, and the Director of Personnel Management, Ado Danazumi, urged the distribution team to carry out their duties with transparency and diligence.
Danazumi further noted that the local government had provided comprehensive logistics support to ensure the nets reach every household.
Representing the Emir of Rano, the Madakin Rano, Alhaji Addau Isa Rano, reaffirmed the Emirate Council’s full backing, pledging the cooperation of village and ward heads to guarantee the success of the program.
Maryam Bashir, speaking on behalf of SFH, urged beneficiaries to consistently sleep under the nets, highlighting that correct usage is vital to preventing malaria and saving lives.
Grateful beneficiaries, including Hadiza Garba and Shaf’iya, expressed their appreciation to the Kano State Governor, the Rano LGA Chairman, and supporting partners for their commitment to community health and wellbeing.
