The Quadripartite Alliance for Voter Registration in Kano has intensified its grassroots mobilization for the ongoing pre-voter registration and awareness exercise, with a renewed focus on engaging transport unions across the state.
On Wednesday, the Alliance, a voter registration mobilization network, convened a strategic session with executives and unit leaders of the Tricycle Owners and Riders Association drawn from all 44 local government areas of Kano State.
The meeting followed an earlier engagement with civil society organizations (CSOs), during which the International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) was selected to represent the network in the Kano State Committee on Voter Awareness and Mobilization, chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, under the directive of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
At the gathering, tricycle leaders were encouraged to mobilize their members, families, friends, and neighbors to participate in the pre-voter registration exercise, particularly those who have not registered or who lost their voter cards.

They were also tasked with nominating representatives from their units to collaborate with the Alliance’s local government coordinators and volunteers at ward and polling unit levels.
Presentations were delivered by Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, Director-General of IPSS, and Comrade Dr. Illiyasu Suleiman Dawakin Tofa, Executive Director of Light House Self-Reliance Initiative.
Both speakers underscored the importance of voter registration as a civic duty and a cornerstone of credible elections. They stressed that mass participation, especially at the grassroots level, is essential for strengthening democracy.
In response, tricycle leaders expressed appreciation for being recognized as key partners in the initiative, pledging to leverage their wide network across Kano’s 44 LGAs to support the drive.
They assured their readiness to work hand-in-hand with the Alliance’s volunteers to make voter registration a truly people-driven process.
The engagement forms part of the Alliance’s three-week action plan to sensitize citizens and drive pre-voter registration across the state’s 44 LGAs, 484 wards, and more than 11,000 polling units.
According to the Alliance, the campaign aims to ensure that no eligible citizen is left behind, while complementing government efforts to deepen democratic participation.
