The Kano State Government’s Committee on Voter Mobilization and Awareness Campaign has stepped up efforts to ensure mass participation in the ongoing voter registration exercise, with adult literacy centres and civil society groups taking the lead.

Chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the committee is collaborating with the Association for Adult and Non-Formal Education Centres, which has mobilized all 701 adult literacy centres across the state to participate in the exercise.

The association also made a strong showing at the International Literacy Day celebration hosted by Bayero University, Kano (BUK), where it was commended for linking literacy development with civic responsibility.

Comrade Dr. Yahaya Danjuma Yusuf, representing the International Peace and Secure Society (IPSS) at the committee’s engagement meeting, said the initiative had inspired the formation of the Quadripartite Alliance for Voter Registration.

The alliance, made up of two CSOs and the literacy association, is working to ensure no eligible voter is left behind.

“Our centres across the state, with hundreds of thousands of male and female learners, have sent representatives from every ward.

“We have identified individuals with Android devices to serve as ward and polling unit volunteers.

“They will be at the forefront of voter mobilization, sensitization, and awareness campaigns throughout this exercise,” Dr. Yusuf stated.

According to him, arrangements have been finalized to train 11,000 volunteers across the three senatorial districts, organized into zonal teams for a grassroots-driven campaign.

Dr. Yusuf, alongside Abdulmumini bin Yusuf and other team members, pledged their commitment to building a robust structure capable of delivering widespread civic participation.

The Quadripartite Alliance, in a memo to the state task force, reaffirmed its mission to integrate literacy with civic duty, stressing that literacy centres will remain a vital platform for strengthening democracy in Kano State.
