A wave of grief has swept through the journalism community and residents of Sokoto State following the death of Aljazeera Newspaper correspondent, Muhammad Ibrahim Goronyo, who passed away on Wednesday after a prolonged illness at his residence in the Arkilla area of Wamakko Local Government Area.
The late journalist, widely respected for his dedication to responsible reporting and commitment to community issues, was laid to rest shortly after funeral prayers held in Arkilla.
Sympathisers from political, religious, and media circles gathered to pay their last respects.
The funeral prayer was led by Sheikh Yusuf Arkilla, who prayed for Allah’s forgiveness and mercy upon the deceased, while reminding mourners of the transient nature of life and the importance of devotion and good deeds.
Among those in attendance was the Chairman of Goronyo Local Government Area, Zubairu Yari Goronyo, who described the late journalist as a dedicated professional whose work reflected sincerity and a strong commitment to truth.
He noted that the death of Goronyo was not only a painful loss to his family but also a significant setback to the journalism profession and society at large.
According to him, the deceased earned widespread respect for his humility, discipline, and passion for reporting stories that impacted the people.
Also speaking, the Sokoto State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bello Aliyu Goronyo, expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family and the media community.
He said the late journalist made meaningful contributions to the media landscape through credible and responsible reporting.
Family members, friends, and colleagues described Goronyo as a quiet yet impactful journalist whose life was devoted to service and the pursuit of truth.
Fellow journalists paid glowing tributes, recalling his professionalism, humility, and unwavering dedication despite his long battle with illness.
Prayers were offered for Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings, grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
His passing has cast a sombre mood over the media fraternity in Sokoto State, with colleagues remembering him as a committed reporter whose contributions to journalism and service to society will not be forgotten.
