The Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), led by Dr. Mrs. Elizabeth Egbetokun, in collaboration with the Force Education Unit of the Nigeria Police Force, officially commissioned the POWA Model Children School in Sum, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State on Thursday.
The event, marked by elegance and purpose, featured the inauguration of the POWA Model Primary School for children of police officers, a groundbreaking ceremony for a proposed Police Secondary School, a fundraising drive to support ongoing educational initiatives, an empowerment program for families of police officers, and members of the host community.
In her address, Dr. Mrs. Egbetokun emphasized that the project represents more than just physical infrastructure. “It embodies a vision for a brighter future,” she said.
“It is a place where our children, the future doctors, lawyers, accountants, professors, engineers, police and military officers, and, importantly, leaders of POWA will receive quality education that nurtures their minds, strengthens their character, and prepares them for a successful life.”
The occasion was graced by several dignitaries, including the Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Bala Mohammed, who served as the chief host and chairman of the occasion, represented by his Special Adviser on Legal Matters, Hon. Barrister Jidauna Tula.
In his remarks, the governor commended POWA’s efforts and assured the association of the Bauchi State Government’s continued support for future initiatives in education and other sectors.
Also present was the Governor of Gombe State and Chairman of the Northern Governors Forum, Yahaya Inuwa, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar.
The Chief Launcher of the occasion, Yakubu A. Maishanu, Chairman/CEO of A.Y.M Shafa Holdings, was represented by his wife, Hajiya Mariya Yakubu Maishanu.
Other dignitaries included the Chairman of the occasion, Bala Wunti; the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 12 Headquarters, AIG Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, and his wife; and the Commissioner of Police, Bauchi State Command, CP Sanni-Omolori Aliyu, alongside numerous guests.
This landmark event highlights the unwavering commitment of POWA and the Nigeria Police Force to expanding access to quality education, promoting the welfare of police families and their host communities, and leveraging education and empowerment as tools for youth development and national progress.
The Nigeria Police Force reaffirmed its dedication to spearheading strategic social impact programs that cultivate responsible citizenship and foster sustainable community growth.
