To ensure a peaceful and incident-free Democracy Day, the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, CP Ahmed Musa, convened a critical security briefing with tactical commanders on Wednesday, 11 June 2025.

The high level meeting was aimed at refining strategic security measures ahead of the national June 12 commemorations, with an emphasis on collaboration, preparedness, and rapid response.

Addressing the session, CP Musa reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property, especially during national events that draw public participation across the state.

He charged all tactical units including the Mobile Police Force, Intelligence Response Team, Counter Terrorism Unit, and Area Commanders to heighten vigilance and adopt proactive measures to prevent disruptions.

Among the strategies finalized during the meeting were intensified visibility patrols at key locations such as parade grounds, government offices, and major public spaces, to reassure residents and deter criminal activity.

The Command also announced enhanced surveillance and intelligence gathering operations, particularly in areas identified as potential flashpoints.

CP Musa stressed the importance of community involvement and information sharing in maintaining public safety.

To address expected increases in vehicular and human traffic, dedicated traffic management teams will be deployed to prevent congestion and ensure orderly movement during the celebrations.

Rapid Response Units have been placed on high alert to react swiftly to any emerging threats, while command centers across the state have been instructed to maintain 24-hour operational readiness.

The Commissioner further declared a temporary restriction on hazardous materials, including a ban on fireworks, explosives, and unauthorized drones in celebration zones, to minimize risk and uphold public safety.

In his official statement, CP Musa said, “The Sokoto Police Command is fully prepared to safeguard citizens as they exercise their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly.

“We urge residents to cooperate with law enforcement, remain vigilant, and report suspicious activity.”

He encouraged citizens to use the Command’s emergency hotlines 08032345167 and 08032861946 to report security concerns promptly. Organizers of rallies and gatherings were also advised to coordinate closely with the police for necessary security arrangements.

Reiterating the Command’s dedication to peace and democracy, CP Musa called for unity and responsible conduct from all residents.

“Let us commemorate this day with pride and purpose, honoring Nigeria’s democratic journey with dignity and peace,” he added.
