In a significant crackdown on automotive crime, the Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of two suspected car thieves and the recovery of three stolen vehicles following a series of intelligence-led operations across three states.
The breakthrough, which highlights the Command’s intensified efforts against motor vehicle theft, was disclosed in a statement by the Kano Command’s spokesperson. CSP Abdullahi Harune Kiyawa. on Tuesday.
According to the statemen, the first incident occurred on August 18, when a female resident of Badawa Quarters reported the theft of her ash-coloured 2011 Hyundai Elantra.
The vehicle was stolen from outside the North Field Montessori Academy in the upscale Nasarawa GRA area.
Through what the statement described as a “meticulous investigation and coordinated intelligence tactical operation,” police officers tracked the vehicle to Zaria, Kaduna State, and recovered it on August 23.
In a separate case, the Command successfully recovered a Pontiac Vibe belonging to a Mr. Moses of Sabon Gari Quarters.
The 2006 model ash-coloured car, with registration number ABJ 739 JK, was stolen from in front of his residence on August 5.
Acting on credible intelligence, police operatives traced and retrieved the vehicle all the way in Adamawa State.
The operation also led to the arrest of two suspects.
On August 18, a tip-off from a vigilant citizen alerted police to the theft of a sky blue Siena Bus (registration GAK 556) from Bauchi State.
Police patrol teams attached to the Wudil Division were placed on high alert, leading to the interception of the vehicle and the arrest of two suspects identified as Yunusa Muhammad (alias Yellow), 35, and Abdulwahab Bala, 23, both from Bauchi State.
The statement confirmed that the suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the investigation, and all recovered vehicles will be returned to their rightful owners.
The Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori commended the diligence and professionalism of the officers involved and extended his gratitude to the public for their support.
