The Kano State Police Command has reported a significant reduction in criminal activities across the state in the first quarter of 2026, attributing the progress to strategic reforms, intelligence-led operations, and strengthened collaboration with stakeholders.

Addressing journalists on Tuesday at the Command Headquarters in Bompai, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, said ongoing restructuring within the Command has enhanced operational efficiency and improved response to emerging security challenges.

Bakori noted that the Command’s 2026 roadmap, which prioritises community policing, intelligence-driven strategies, and capacity building, has begun to yield “tremendous results.”

He highlighted the success of “Operation Kukan Kura,” a security initiative credited with curbing thuggery, locally known as Fadan Daba, and reducing violence in the state.

According to him, the Police, in collaboration with the Kano State Government and other security agencies, have also successfully prevented the infiltration of bandits into the state and resolved recurring farmers-herders clashes through dialogue and community engagement.

The Commissioner further disclosed that several suspects linked to crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and thuggery have been arrested and prosecuted, with stolen properties recovered.

On the fight against drug-related crimes, Bakori revealed that the Command has leveraged open-source intelligence to identify suspected drug dealers.

He said over 2,000 names have been compiled and are currently undergoing verification for possible action.

“We are committed to leveraging technology and community support in tackling crime.

“The profiling of suspected drug dealers is ongoing, and decisive action will follow upon conclusion of investigations,” he said.

While acknowledging existing security challenges, Bakori assured residents that the Police would sustain collaboration with relevant authorities to maintain peace and security across the state.

He commended the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for his leadership and support, and also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his cooperation.

The CP also thanked residents of Kano State for their continued support, urging them to remain law-abiding and assist security agencies with timely information.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring that Kano State would remain conducive for peaceful living and economic activities.
