The Kano State Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in its fight against vehicle theft with the recovery of four stolen vehicles and the arrest of four suspects linked to the crimes.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the development was attributed to sustained intelligence-led and technology-driven operations being implemented by the Command in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

The statement noted that the operations are also being vigorously enforced by the Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, as part of ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities and enhance public safety across the state.

According to the police, on 7 March 2026, operatives of the Command’s Anti-Car Theft Unit intercepted a dark blue Hyundai Elantra at the Naibawa Flyover Bridge in Kano.

The vehicle was reportedly stolen in Abuja and was being driven by two suspects identified as Ibrahim Muhd, 29, from Minna in Niger State, and Ahmed Sani, 32, from Abuja. Both suspects reportedly confessed to the crime.

In a related operation on 9 March 2026, the unit arrested Abdulkarim Mamman, 30, of Malali Quarters in Kaduna, while in possession of an ash-coloured Honda Civic at Kwanar Dawaki along the Kano–Zaria Expressway.

The suspect allegedly admitted to stealing the vehicle from Karkasara Quarters in Kano.

Police further disclosed that another suspect, Yusuf Ali, 28, also from Kaduna, was arrested in connection with a silver Toyota Corolla reported stolen from Dutse in Jigawa State.

Additionally, a white Nissan Sunny stolen from a parking lot within the Kano metropolis was also recovered from the suspects.

The Command stated that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the process.

The police reiterated their commitment to tackling criminal activities in the state and urged members of the public to continue supporting security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities to the nearest police station.
