In a move to deepen community-based crime prevention, the Kano State Police Command has disbursed a total of N1 million to 36 youths as part of its reintegration and empowerment program.

CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the Command’s spokesperson, in a statement issued on Tuesday, said the initiative, which aligns with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, was carried out on Monday at the State Police Headquarters in Bompai, Kano.

According to the statement, the cash support, donated by philanthropist Baffa Babba Dan Agundi, is aimed at helping vulnerable youths transition into productive ventures and sustainable livelihoods.

Speaking during the disbursement, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, urged beneficiaries to invest the funds in their trades and small businesses.

He emphasised the importance of discipline and prudent management of resources.

“The most important thing is discipline and reinvestment.

“No amount is too small to grow if you are committed,” Bakori said, noting that several beneficiaries had already abandoned criminal activities and embraced legitimate means of livelihood, with some now supporting families of their own.

The event attracted key stakeholders who commended the initiative and pledged continued support.

Chairman of the Kano State Council of Ulama, Ibrahim Khalil, lauded the program and announced plans for additional personal donations, urging the youths to become responsible members of society.

Representing the donor, Nasiru Usman Na’ibawa reaffirmed commitment to sustained youth empowerment efforts.

Other dignitaries present included Chairman of AMG Foundation, Aminu Garba Magashi, and Executive Director of YOSPIS, Zainab Naseer Ahmad, both of whom expressed support for initiatives promoting youth reformation and community safety.

One of the beneficiaries, Chile Mai Doki, recounted his transformation, revealing that he once lived in hiding and slept in a cemetery before embracing a new path.

He credited his father’s encouragement and the police initiative for his turnaround.

“I was forgiven and given a second chance. Today, I have hope,” he said.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to community-driven policing and called on individuals, corporate organizations, and philanthropists to support similar programs through training, tools, and employment opportunities.

He also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for creating an enabling environment, including the launch of the Safe Corridor Initiative.

The Command maintained that sustained collaboration between government, private sector, and communities remains key to reducing crime and building a safer, more productive society.
