The Kogi State Police Command has dismissed widespread social media reports alleging a possible bandit attack in Kogi East, describing them as false and unverifiable.

In a statement on Monday issued in Lokoja by the Police Command’s spokesperson, SP William Aya, the Command said the claims lacked any element of truth and urged the public not to panic.

According to the statement, the Command has already intensified security measures to safeguard lives and property across the state.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has deployed tactical teams, including the Police Mobile Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit, Quick Response Unit, and intelligence operatives, to strategic locations.

Additional security assets have also been stationed in critical areas to swiftly address any unforeseen security concerns.

The Police Command appealed to residents to remain calm and verify information through official channels before sharing, warning that misinformation can trigger unnecessary fear.

It further encouraged the public to collaborate with security agencies in maintaining peace and safety.

“If you notice anything suspicious, please report without hesitation. Security is a shared responsibility,” the statement added.

Members of the public were also urged to use the Command’s emergency phone line: 07038329084.
