Kogi State Police Command has confirmed receiving credible intelligence regarding a planned protest slated for the 27th of this month in Lokoja.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, ASP Saliu Oyiza Afusat, the police acknowledged the constitutional right of citizens to peaceful assembly and expression but emphasized that such rights must be exercised within the confines of the law.

The statement noted that the Command, under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Naziru Bello Kankarofi, has advised all individuals and groups intending to participate in the protest to report to the Command Headquarters in Lokoja for proper identification and engagement.

According to the police, the directive is aimed at identifying genuine organisers and participants, preventing criminal elements from hijacking the protest, and ensuring adequate security arrangements for a peaceful exercise.

Organisers were further instructed to provide key details of the protest, including the proposed route, duration, and nature of activities, to aid effective security deployment.

The Command warned that any protest that turns violent, involves unlawful assembly, or obstructs public highways will not be tolerated, stressing that violators will face the full weight of the law.

Commissioner of Police Kankarofi also called on stakeholders to cooperate with security agencies to maintain peace, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.

Residents were urged to remain law-abiding and promptly report any suspicious activities to the nearest police formation.
