The Anambra State Police Command has taken into custody a masquerade allegedly involved in unprovoked and violent attacks on residents of Awgbu, Orumba North Local Government Area, following a breach of public peace in the community.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrest followed widespread public outrage over a viral video showing the masquerade attacking innocent citizens.
The police described the conduct captured in the footage as unacceptable and unlawful, stressing that such actions would not be tolerated under any guise.
The Command assured Ndi Anambra and the general public that the suspect is currently in police custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend all other persons connected to the incident.
Police authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining law and order across the state and warned against acts capable of disrupting public peace and safety.
