The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Mubarak Bello of Kofar Yamma quarters in Kurfi Local Government Area, for unlawful possession of a firearm and impersonation.
Spokesperson of the Command, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Sunday. He said Bello was apprehended during a routine patrol at about 2:30 a.m. on September 13.
According to him, operatives on stop-and-search duty flagged down an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla with Lagos registration number GGE 473 BH after the driver failed to provide a credible explanation about himself or the vehicle.
A search of the car uncovered a locally fabricated rifle, four live cartridges, two expended shells, a fake police identity card, and an additional plate number with Kano registration FGE 68.
Aliyu quoted the Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, as commending the officers for their vigilance and swift action. He assured residents that investigations were ongoing to trace the source of the firearm and establish the motive behind the suspect’s impersonation.
