Plateau State Government has condemned the outbreak of violence along the Mangu–Sabon Gari Road on 1 May 2026, where unidentified persons reportedly blocked the highway and attacked commuters.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Rt. Hon. Joyce Lohya Ramnap, the government described the incident as unacceptable, stressing that no grievance justifies violence against innocent citizens or disruption of public peace.
According to the statement, government acknowledged public anger following the killings of 30 April in Sabon Gari but insisted that resorting to reprisals and road blockades undermines law and order.
The statement disclosed that security agencies have been directed to arrest and prosecute all those involved in both the April 30 killings and the subsequent May 1 disturbances, assuring that justice would be served.
The state government also extended condolences to the families of victims affected by the incidents and expressed sympathy to all those impacted. It further appreciated the Ngolong Ngas, His Royal Highness Nde Jika Golit, for his restraint and understanding despite being affected.
It commended Operation Enduring Peace and other security agencies for their swift intervention in restoring calm to the affected area.
Calling for restraint, the statement urged community, religious and political leaders to help de-escalate tensions, while encouraging citizens to channel grievances through lawful means. It reaffirmed its openness to dialogue in resolving disputes.
The state government also warned that anyone found inciting violence or engaging in unlawful acts, including road blockades in the name of reprisal, would face the full weight of the law.
Residents were advised to remain calm and cooperate with authorities to sustain peace and stability across the state.
