The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Bashar Abubakar Yaro Galadima, said he observed that the mass retirement of local government staff across the state is affecting the effective and efficient performance in the council areas.
The SSA disclosure when he visited Ghari and Tsanyawa local government councils in continuation of sensitization visit to 44 local governments in the State.
He noted that the shortage affects the services of messengers, watchmen, dispatch riders, and drivers to mention but a few, a situation that prompted the employment of casual workers to close some of the gaps.
Hon. Yaro maintained that the visit was envisaged to serve as a wake-up call to workers for them to sit up and face their undertakings squarely and change the performance of the local governments for the better.
He further urged the councils to provide computers in their respective secretariat with a view to avoid leaking government confidential documents at private business centers.
In their separate remarks, the Chairmen of Ghari, Hashimu Garba Maisabu, and Ishaq Ya’u Yan Awaki of Tsanyawa represented by the Director of Personnel Management, Engineer Auwalu Ado Ungogo expressed happiness with the visit.
They said it was timely and would impact the overall performance of the local governments’ workers.
The Chairmen also used the opportunity to commend Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for approving multi-million Naira projects to be executed in various human endeavours such as the renovation of clinics, primary schools, provision of portable drinking water, roads, and other projects that will benefit the life of people.
They assured of their continued support and cooperation with the present administration’s policies and programs in order to achieve the set objectives.
Heads of Departments and junior staff also appreciated the implementation of the new minimum wage that impacted positively on the lives of workers in the state.
