The Project Advisory and Development Assistance Committee (PADAC), in collaboration with the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapkes Project (ACReSAL), has planted more than 100,000 trees across schools, military barracks, roadsides, and other strategic locations in Jigawa State to tackle desertification, erosion, and the broader impacts of climate change.
PADAC Chairman, Yusuf Abdullahi, explained that the large-scale tree planting is part of urgent measures to combat environmental degradation.
“We have planted over one hundred thousand tree seedlings in various locations to address desertification and other related challenges,” he stated.
Speaking on Monduring a visit to Birniwa Model Primary School, Abdullahi said the team was there to raise awareness on the importance of tree planting as part of ACReSAL’s mandate in Jigawa.
He noted that 500 seedlings had been planted within the school compound to protect the area from desertification, erosion, strong winds, and to improve the local atmosphere.
The Chairman of Birniwa Local Government, Hon. Shehu Baba, pledged full support and cooperation to any non-governmental organization working to improve the community.
The tree-planting campaign attracted wide participation, including members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), the Nigerian Association of Road Transport Owners (NARTO), security agencies, Islamic clerics, and other stakeholders.
