The Oyo State Government has declared that there is no going back on its resolve to demolish illegal structures around schools across the state.
Chairperson of Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA), Justice Aderonke Aderemi (rtd.) made the declaration during an inspection to the Jemibewon, Sabo area of Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
She reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sanitise the environment and maintain a lawful and orderly society.
Speaking after the visit, Aderemi said government would not be distracted by complaints arising from the demolition exercises.
She said the visit was at the instance of a petition received by OYRLEA dated 17th February, 2025 calling its attention to shanties around St. Gabriel School, Jemibewon.
Justice Aderemi recalled that Governor Seyi Makinde had ordered the removal of shanties around school areas and fences since October 24, 2023, maintaining that the directive must be upheld by the rule of law.
“Letters have gone out twice to the occupants and owners of these illegal structures, our officers have even gone to meet with the ‘Seriki n Sabo’ to have dialogue with the residents, an ultimatum to vacate the place was issued as well’, she disclosed.
However, the Chairperson said an appeal was made to delay the intervention and demolition till Wednesday, March 19, 2025.
