The Obidient Movement, a citizens-led political platform inspired by former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, has strongly dismissed reports claiming it endorsed Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo for a second term.
In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, the Movement described the viral claim as “false, misleading, and a deliberate attempt to exploit the Obidient brand for political gain.”
“The Obidient Movement has not endorsed, supported, or authorised Governor Soludo or any other candidate outside our declared position,” the statement clarified.
Dr. Tanko reaffirmed that the Movement’s official choice for the upcoming Anambra governorship election remains George Moghalu, an endorsement that aligns with Peter Obi’s publicly stated position.
He stressed that the Obidient Movement is not a political party and does not operate as the political arm of any organisation or individual.
“We supported Peter Obi in 2023 because of his competence and integrity, not because of a party label. Our values remain unchanged: truth, accountability, and good governance,” he said.
The group condemned what it described as the fraudulent use of its name to gain political advantage, warning that impostors would be exposed.
“The Obidient identity is not for sale, not for rent, and not available for political laundering,” the statement cautioned.
It also urged the media, political groups, and the public to verify information before circulation, noting that disinformation poses a serious threat to democracy.
“False claims such as these are intended to deceive the public.
“We urge Nigerians to stay alert and only trust verified information from our official platforms,” the group added.
Reiterating its commitment to building ethical leadership and accountable governance, the Movement said all major decisions, including its position ahead of the 2027 presidential election, would be made collectively and transparently.
“The Obidient Movement stands for truth, justice, and a better Nigeria. No amount of propaganda will derail our mission,” Dr. Tanko concluded.
Formed during the 2023 general elections, the Obidient Movement has grown into a nationwide citizens’ advocacy network championing transparency, youth participation, and responsible leadership.
