NUJ @ 70: Governor Yusuf Receives Journalist-Friendly Award

On Saturday, the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, was awarded the prestigious Journalist-Friendly Governor Award at the 70th anniversary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

NUJ in its seven decades commemoration has awarded people who stand tall in various capacities, finding the Governor Yusuf worthy, considering his unwavering support to journalists, and relating well with the media.

In a press statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, said the Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Abdussalam Gwarzo, received the award on behalf of the Governor Yusuf.

While speaking at the occasion, the Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdussalam Gwarzo, stated that the numerous initiatives being introduced by the Abba Kabir-led administration to promoting press freedom and ensuring that journalists have a conducive atmosphere for work in the state.

The initiative includes: improving working condition of the journalists, empowerment, and motivation to journalists.

The Governor stated that the award is being dedicated to the entire people of Kano State and all well-wishers who believe in freedom of information and responsible journalism.

He promised to continue to partner with the media sector to strengthen democracy, good governance, and the free flow of information.

“This award is dedicated to the good people of Kano State and all well-wishers,” the Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdussalam, has concluded.

This event underscores the importance of a cordial relationship between the government and the press in fostering development, transparency, and the growth of democratic values.

On his part, the National President of the NUJ, Comrade Alhassan Abdullahi, described the award to his Governor Yusuf as putting a round peg in the right hole.

He commended the Governor for drumming up support for journalists and the journalism profession in general. The Kano state government has been transparent in governance.

The event, which took place at the Yar’adua Centre, had the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in attendance, former Presidents of the NUJ, and several other members and leaders across the country.
