The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has assured the Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANIEC) of its full cooperation ahead of the forthcoming bye-elections scheduled to hold in three wards across Dala, Doguwa, and Ghari Local Government Areas.

The Command’s spokesperson, SC Ibrahim Idris Abdullahi, announced the assurance in a statement on Wednesday after NSCDC Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, received the Executive Chairman of KANIEC, Professor Sani Lawan Malumfashi, at the headquarters in Kano.

The bye-elections were necessitated by the recent deaths of three councillors representing Kofar Mazugal, Matan Fada, and Maraku wards.

During the visit, Professor Malumfashi appealed for the Corps’ support to ensure a smooth, peaceful, and credible electoral process.

“Considering your vital role in election management, and with Kano being politically conscious and highly sensitive to electoral activities, I cannot take this election for granted,” he said.

“Security agencies, including the Civil Defence Corps, are custodians of democracy. Without your support, we cannot conduct a free and fair election.”

Acknowledging recent security challenges in parts of the state, Malumfashi emphasised the need for enhanced security before, during, and after the polls slated for December 13, 2025.

Responding, Commandant Agalama reaffirmed the NSCDC’s readiness to provide maximum support, stressing that the Corps would ensure the protection of voters, election materials, and critical infrastructure.

“I can guarantee you the maximum support of the NSCDC.

“We will ensure that the electorate, both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials, and all government facilities are adequately protected throughout the election period,” he said.

The NSCDC and KANIEC leadership expressed confidence in a peaceful and orderly conduct of the bye-elections.
