The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, has arrested a 27-year-old suspected tricycle thief after a failed attempt to steal a commercial tricycle along IBB Road in Kano metropolis.
The suspect, Nasiru Sulaiman, an indigene of Babura Local Government Area of Jigawa State, allegedly devised a deceptive plan by sending the tricycle rider on an errand before attempting to make away with the vehicle.
According to the NSCDC, the suspect reportedly disconnected the tricycle’s ignition key and was about to flee when his suspicious movements attracted the attention of vigilant residents.
The residents swiftly intercepted him and handed him over to operatives of the NSCDC Kano State Command for investigation.
The State Commandant, Mohammed Hassan Agalama, commended the residents for their prompt intervention, describing their vigilance as instrumental in foiling the theft.
He urged members of the public to remain security conscious and continue supporting security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities within their communities.
Commandant Agalama reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives, property, and critical national assets and infrastructure across Kano State.
He disclosed that investigations into the case had been concluded and that the suspect would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
The NSCDC also reiterated its appeal for sustained public cooperation in the collective effort to rid Kano State of criminal elements.
