Nollywood drama Phoenix Fury will premiere at the 16th Silicon Valley African Film Festival (SVAFF) in San Jose, California, from October 9 to 12.
The organisers confirmed via Instagram that the film is among 92 entries from 35 countries selected for screening at the annual event.
Written, directed and produced by Ifeoma Chukwuogo, the star-studded movie features Uzoamaka Power, Onyinye Odokoro, Joseph Momodu, Ama K. Abebrese and veteran actor Richard Mofe-Damijo.
Phoenix Fury tells the story of Ewura-Ama, a widow who inherits a luxury resort in Ghana, only to have her world shaken by the arrival of Yali, Nigeria’s newly elected governor.
The film’s SVAFF debut follows its triumph at the 2024 Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF), where it won Best Film and Best Director, as well as its 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards nomination for Best Lead Actress.
Other Nigerian titles on the SVAFF 2025 lineup include Mother’s Love, Osamede, Soft Love, In Her Shoes and The Incredible Sensational Fiancée of Sèyí Àjàyí.
Founded by Chike Nwoffiah, the Silicon Valley African Film Festival promotes authentic African storytelling through film screenings, panel sessions, live performances, a fashion show and an African Market.
