The death of veteran Nollywood actress, director, and film producer, Allwell Ademola, has plunged the Nigerian film industry into deep mourning.
The acclaimed filmmaker passed away on Saturday in Lagos at the age of 43, leaving colleagues, fans, and industry stakeholders in shock.
The tragic news was confirmed by fellow actress Faithia Williams, who took to Instagram to announce the loss. Expressing her grief, Williams described the late filmmaker, fondly called “Eniobanke”, as someone very dear to her, writing, “This hit me so bad.”
Other notable industry figures, including Mide Martins and Biola Bayo, have also paid tribute, describing Ademola as vibrant, hardworking, and deeply committed to her profession.
Since the announcement of her passing, social media has been awash with emotional messages from Nollywood practitioners who described the day as a “Black Saturday” for the industry.
The widespread reactions reflect the strong bonds and respect she earned over the years through her work and personal relationships.
Allwell Ademola was a prolific figure in both Yoruba and English-language film productions, excelling as an actress, director, and producer. She was widely respected for her versatility and dedication, as well as her passion for mentoring emerging talents.
Beyond her professional achievements, she was the granddaughter of the late Sir Adetokunbo Ademola, Nigeria’s first indigenous Chief Justice.
As of Saturday evening, no official statement had been released by her family.
Although reports suggest she suffered a sudden heart attack at her residence and was rushed to Ancilla Hospital in Agege, details surrounding her final moments and funeral arrangements have yet to be formally confirmed.
The Nollywood community continues to grieve the loss of the 43-year-old creative icon, whose contributions to the industry will be remembered for years to come.
