The Nigerian Meteorological Agency has forecast thunderstorms and rainfall across various parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday.

According to the agency, thunderstorms with moderate rainfall are expected over northern states, including Jigawa, Zamfara, Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Yobe, and Katsina, on Monday morning, with rain extending to Kebbi, Adamawa, and Taraba by afternoon.

“Flash floods are possible in Bauchi, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna, and Kano States during this period,” NiMet warned.

Central states such as Niger, Benue, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Plateau, and Nasarawa will experience morning cloudiness with light to moderate rainfall, while flooding remains likely in parts of Plateau.

In the south, light to moderate rains will affect Ondo, Imo, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi, Anambra, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.

On Tuesday, sunny skies with patchy clouds will dominate much of the north, while thunderstorms and rains will continue in parts of Adamawa, Taraba, and neighbouring states. Central and southern regions will also see moderate rainfall.

By Wednesday, northern states will start with sunny mornings, followed by thunderstorms later in the day.

The central region will experience cloudy skies and moderate rain, while southern states, including Ebonyi, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Cross River, will have morning showers and heavier afternoon rains.

NiMet advised residents in flood-prone areas to prepare emergency responses, avoid driving during heavy rains, secure loose objects, and stay cautious of strong winds and low nighttime temperatures.

It also warned against sheltering under tall trees and urged residents to disconnect electrical appliances during storms.

Airline operators were advised to obtain airport-specific weather reports for safe planning.
