Abel Yakubu, a Nigerian-born cloud engineer based in Germany, has completed a 60-hour marathon programming session in Abuja, aiming to break the Guinness World Record for the longest computer programming session.

The attempt began at 11 a.m. on Friday, November 21, and concluded at 11 p.m. on Sunday, November 23, 2025, at the Minds and Emotions Centre in Graceland Garden, Wuse 2, Abuja.

The current record stands at 48 hours and 15 minutes.

According to Grace Edibo, a life coach at the Centre, the session, streamed live across major social media platforms, represents a milestone for Nigeria’s growing tech ecosystem.

Sixty students attended in person, while over 25 official witnesses monitored the event.

Ajodo Ojotule Benjamin, a Guinness World Records official overseeing the attempt, confirmed that all guidelines were strictly followed.

With more than a decade of experience in cloud engineering, Yakubu focused the marathon on leading cloud platforms, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.

He said his motivation extended beyond breaking a world record.

“I undertook this challenge to inspire young tech enthusiasts, especially now with the rise of AI globally,” Yakubu said. “Hands-on skills are critical.”

Yakubu revealed that he prepared for two months, both physically and mentally, for the endurance task.

“The toughest period was through the night,” he said. “Teaching cloud computing non-stop is exhausting; my voice is almost gone.”

He encouraged young Nigerians to embrace digital skills, noting that he has trained over 200 young people in the past year.

“This is the right time to learn tech skills. Parents should encourage their children to pursue them; skills never go to waste.”

Participants praised Yakubu’s teaching style. Fawole Blessing described the session as “relaxing and impactful,” while Adula Joseph Francis said curiosity brought him in, but Yakubu’s engaging delivery kept him for all three days.

Guinness World Records will review the evidence before confirming whether Yakubu’s 60-hour marathon sets a new global record.
