Musa Na Allah, Sokoto
In a powerful demonstration of its commitment to community welfare and nation-building, the Headquarters of the 8 Division, Nigerian Army, on Thursday, conducted a one-day free medical outreach for residents of Balle Community in Gudu Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The initiative, held as part of the 2025 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL), was designed to boost healthcare access in underserved communities affected by insecurity, while fostering stronger civil-military relations within the Division and Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation HADARIN DAJI’s Area of Responsibility.
Representing the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force Operation FANSARAN YAMMA, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, was Colonel Mohammed Umar, Commander of Defence Headquarters Special Operations.
In his remarks, Colonel Umar emphasized that the outreach targeted urgent healthcare needs, particularly for women, children, and the elderly.
“This initiative reflects the Nigerian Army’s broader vision of not only defending the nation but also enhancing the well-being of the people.
“We are committed to initiatives that contribute to peace, security, and development,” Colonel Umar said.
He called on the Balle community to continue supporting security agencies, noting that sustainable peace requires mutual effort and trust.
The outreach brought together medical personnel, pharmacists, and support staff who attended to hundreds of residents with free consultations, treatment, and essential medications.
Public health education was also provided to raise awareness on preventive care and hygiene practices.
For many in Balle, this marked a rare opportunity to receive professional medical attention. Mothers clutched prescriptions while elderly residents expressed relief after receiving treatment for long-standing ailments.
Local leaders welcomed the initiative, describing it as a significant relief in a rural area where insecurity and economic challenges often hinder access to healthcare services.
The District Head of Balle, Abdulrahman Usman, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Nigerian Army, calling the gesture both timely and impactful.
“This act of kindness shows that the Nigerian Army is not only a guardian of national security but also a partner in our community’s progress.
“We are deeply grateful for this support and the renewed sense of hope it brings,” he stated.
He also offered prayers for continued protection and success for the Nigerian Army and other security forces, urging residents to maintain close cooperation with military personnel in the interest of peace and stability.
As the medical team concluded the day’s activities, the expressions of gratitude and visible relief among residents underscored the far-reaching impact of the outreach.
For Balle, the day was more than a celebration of the Army’s service—it was a reaffirmation of trust and solidarity between the military and the people they serve.
