Team Nigeria has put up a commendable performance at the ongoing 2025 Africa Karate Championship, clinching five medals and reaffirming its growing stature in African karate.
The tournament, currently taking place in Abuja, has brought together over 1,000 elite athletes from 31 countries for a weeklong display of martial arts excellence, discipline, and sportsmanship.
As of Friday evening, Nigeria emerged second on the overall medals table, securing a total of five medals, one gold, two silver, and two bronze, much to the delight of home supporters and local officials.
Egypt, however, asserted its dominance by topping the medals table with a commanding performance, winning eight gold, one silver, and three bronze medals.
Senegal, Morocco, and Niger each claimed one gold, one silver, and one bronze to occupy third place jointly. Algeria followed in fourth place with one gold medal, while Cameroon settled in fifth position after earning three silver and four bronze medals.
Competition is set to continue on Saturday, with expectations high that Team Nigeria will add to its medal tally.
It is worth noting that over 1,000 athletes from 31 countries are participating in the 2025 Africa Karate Championship, which runs from July 21 to 28 in Abuja.
