The Federal Government has signed a landmark Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA) with Brazil to establish direct flights between both countries.

The agreement was signed by Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, and Brazil’s Minister of Transport, Silvio Costa Filho.

According to a statement by the minister’s media adviser, Tunde Moshood, the deal provides a framework for enhanced air connectivity, expected to boost trade, tourism, investment, cultural ties, and diplomatic cooperation.

Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva welcomed the partnership, pledging his country’s readiness to deepen collaboration with Nigeria in aviation, agriculture, and infrastructure.

The signing took place during President Bola Tinubu’s official visit to Brazil, where he was accompanied by top cabinet members, including Finance Minister Wale Edun, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Onoh Ojukwu, Aviation Minister Keyamo, and Agriculture Minister Abubakar Kyari.

Moshood described the MoU as a strategic milestone that strengthens bilateral relations between the two largest economies in Africa and South America, while advancing Tinubu’s agenda of expanding Nigeria’s global partnerships.
