Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has announced a donation of N100 million to the Federal University of Technology (FUT) Minna to facilitate the construction of hostels for students.

He announced this when he received the University’s Governing Council on a courtesy call at Government House Minna.

The Governor observed a need for inter-institutional collaboration among tertiary institutions in the State. He called for synergy between the Institutions regarding Research and programme exchange.

Governor Bago said doing so would accelerate development in the education sector, especially as the State government desires to make the State the hub of education.

He also expressed readiness to partner with the FUT Minna in the Green Initiative of the State government, where the vast land of the institution would be utilised to generate power for the University and its environs rather than relying on the national grid.

The Governor applauded the FUT Minna Governing Council for conceiving the idea of introducing medicine-related courses in the institution. He promised the state government’s support in making it a reality.

Earlier, the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of FUT Minna governing council, Dr Muhammad Kudu Santuraki, disclosed that the University had become an incredible institution doing remarkably well in the International rating where it has consistently been ranked in the top ten for the past three years among over 290 Universities in Nigeria.

He also revealed that the university is working on establishing a medical school that will use the Federal Medical Centre FMC Bida as its teaching hospital.
