The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a notorious drug trafficker, 36-year-old Sunday Ibigide, three years after he was declared wanted.

Ibigide was apprehended in Asaba, Delta State, on Sunday, August 10, 2025, while attempting to distribute 250 blocks of skunk weighing 138 kilograms in his distribution bus. He had been on the run since March 19, 2022, when operatives linked him to the seizure of 24.137kg of skunk and 10 grams of molly.

According to a statement by NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi on Sunday, August 17, Ibigide was arrested alongside his aide, Clement Osuya, 27, following credible intelligence.

In a separate operation, NDLEA operatives at the Port Harcourt Ports Complex, Onne, Rivers State, intercepted illicit drugs worth more than ₦7.8 billion. The seizure included 875,000 bottles of codeine-based syrup valued at over ₦6.1 billion and 3.5 million pills of Trodol Benzhexol worth ₦1.7 billion.

Babafemi said the drugs were recovered from five containers tracked under NDLEA’s intelligence watch-list during a joint examination with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies on August 14 at the West Africa Container Terminal (WACT), Onne.

The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing to dismantle the network behind the shipments.
