Cooking gas prices have eased slightly across Nigeria, with new data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) revealing the ten states where households paid the least for Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) in August 2025.

The report shows that the average cost of refilling a 12.5kg cylinder dropped by 21.42% month-on-month, falling from ₦20,609.48 in July 2025 to ₦16,195.07 in August 2025.

Despite this decline, prices were still 4.13% higher year-on-year, compared to ₦15,552.56 in August 2024.

At number ten on the list is Kogi State, where a 12.5kg refill averaged ₦15,904.50 in August 2025 it was down 22.62% from ₦20,555.02 recorded in July.

However, compared to the same period last year, prices in the state rose 10.72%, from ₦14,364.85 in August 2024.

Analysts attribute the drop in Kogi’s gas prices to recent infrastructure investments aimed at expanding local supply.

In January, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) commissioned five mini-LNG plants in Ajaokuta, in collaboration with NNPC Prime LNG, NGML/Gasnexus LNG, BUA LNG, Highland LNG, and LNG Arete.

The plants, with a combined capacity of 97 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (mmscf/d), are part of efforts to strengthen domestic LPG availability and stabilize prices.

The NBS noted that the general price decline offers a brief respite for households grappling with rising living costs, even as the agency prepares to release a comprehensive breakdown of the top 10 cheapest states for cooking gas in the coming days.
