The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Kano State Chapter, in collaboration with Premier Radio, Widi-Jalo Foundation, and Kalamed, commemorated this year’s International Women’s Day with a special Iftar gathering in Kano.

The event, held under the theme “Give to Gain,” brought together women from different sectors, stakeholders, and development partners to reflect on the importance of empowering women for sustainable societal growth.

This was disclosed in a joint statement on Tuesday by the Chairperson and Secretary, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara and Comrade Maryam Muhammad Yakasai, respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, the Chairperson of NAWOJ Kano State Chapter, Sayyida Bahijja Malam Kabara, emphasized the need for collective support towards women’s development.

She called on the public, stakeholders, and the government to invest in women, noting that empowering women strengthens families and society at large.

As part of activities marking the celebration, NAWOJ and its partners announced plans to support selected women with training programs aimed at equipping them with skills to build sustainable livelihoods and improve their socio-economic status.

The event also featured a Qur’anic Tafseer delivered by Sayyida Zainab Mu’azzam Kabara, who highlighted the Islamic perspective on compassion, generosity, and supporting one another, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.

Other notable speakers at the event included Hajiya Aisha Haruna Kabuga of Human Rights advocacy, Hannatu Abba of Kalamed, Comrade Bilkisu Mai Iyali of Widi-Jalo Foundation, and Ambassador Aminu representing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

They all stressed the importance of collaboration in advancing women’s rights, education, and economic empowerment.
