Nassarawa Local Government Area in Kano State has officially launched the sale of fertilizer to farmers at a 50% subsidized rate, marking a major push to enhance agricultural productivity in the area.
Council Chairman, Amb. Yusuf Shuaibu Imam Ogan Boye, who also serves as Deputy ALGON Chairman for Kano Central, said the initiative was approved by Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as part of state-wide efforts to tackle hunger and strengthen food security.
Amb. Yusuf praised the Governor’s open-door leadership style and dedication to addressing the needs of citizens. He described the fertilizer subsidy as a timely intervention aimed at supporting farmers during the current planting season.
During the flag-off ceremony, Vice Chairman Hon. Dahiru Maitama Abdullahi Arrow and Council Secretary Hon. Ado Muhammad Hotoro commended the Chairman’s commitment to Nassarawa’s development.
The Head of the Agriculture Department, Salisu Aminu, along with Supervisory Councillor for Agriculture Hon. Abdullahi, confirmed that the subsidy has lowered the fertilizer price to ₦20,000 per bag to improve accessibility for farmers.
Traditional leaders, including the District Head of Nassarawa, Wamban Kano Alh. Kabiru Tijjani Hashim, and District Head of Kawaji, Danruwatan Kano, Ibrahim Ado Bayero, urged farmers to take full advantage of the initiative to boost food production this year.
