NASS Conducts Capacity Building Workshop for Directorate Cadre in Sokoto

The National Assembly in collaboration with the Knowledge Research Consult on Monday commenced a 3-day capacity-building workshop for the Directorate Cadre on Strategic Management in the public sector in Sokoto State.

The Clerk to the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambuwal in his address while declaring the Workshop open, noted that the training is crucial to the development and promotion of organizational growth and solution for bridging the gaps that the management identified since 2022.

He said the training was part of renewed efforts to evolve a more resourceful, professional, and efficient National Assembly, capable of discharging its statutory responsibilities.

Represented by Engineer Alkali Baba Sanda, Tambuwal said that the values and attractions of training make it possible for organizations to retain top talents.

Earlier in her address the Director of Training and Staff Development, Ike Chinwo Justina said,  the journey started last year in August when over 3,000 staff were trained from July to September 2024, he added that 600 staff from GL 04 to 14 were also trained during the period.

“The training of all cadres of Legislative Aides was concluded on the 9th of October, 2024.

“This is the third and the last batch of training program for the Directorate Cadre this year after which we shall be bold to say that the staff of the National Assembly from Grade Level 17 down to Grade Level 04 who made themselves available have been trained.

“It has been a hectic season. I must say the Management of the National Assembly led by the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) deserves to be congratulated for this achievement.

“As we can see from the theme “Strategic Management in the Public Sector”, this training is meant to promote productivity and strengthen the decision-making process of the Directorate Cadre of the National Assembly.

“The strategic role that the Directorate Cadre plays in the Parliamentary support process to the National Assembly cannot be over-emphasized.

“They are an integral part of the bureaucratic structure and system of the National Assembly.”

According to her, the Management painstakingly chose this strategic serene, and relaxed location (far away from the bustles and hustles of work) for the participants.

“Sokoto the Ancient Seat of the Caliphate,  has a historically rich political, socio-economic, and religious culture that has contributed to the development of our country Nigeria.

“I encourage you participants to place a premium on this program by deliberately paying attention to obtain maximum benefit.

She said lot of resources have been put in place to ensure that you have the skills and knowledge required for you to function effectively.

“This platform is meant for you to not only interact and share ideas, knowledge, and experiences with the resource persons but also among yourselves.

“At this juncture, I want to appreciate the Clerk to the National Assembly    Alh. Sani Magaji Tambuwal and the entire Management Team for his dedication to capacity building of the human resources of the National Assembly.

“I would also like to thank the CEO of Knowledge Research Consult and his team for the partnership with the National Assembly and ensuring that this program is a reality.

“I extend my appreciation to the Secretary, Human Resource and Staff Development Directorate Dr. Alkali Umar Abubakar.”
