The Nigerian Army Officers Wives Association (NAOWA), has inaugurated the remodeled NAOWA vocational center situated at Giginya Barracks Sokoto.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony on Wednesday Mrs. Anne Omoh Tawasimi, the Zonal Coordinator of NAOWA and initiator of the project, said the gesture was to argue the Federal Government skills acquisition training initiative aimed at promoting self-reliance.
Tawasimi explained that based on the government initiative, students at all levels were enjoined to combine educational learning with skills acquisition training to boost productive engagements in all sectors.
She said the remodeled center was equipped with modern equipment and specialized instructors, training people on tailoring, catering, handcraft, beauty makeup, computer literacy, and others.
According to her, in the present batch, 115 women have graduated from different sections in the center.
She added that the center represented more than just a physical structure, as it symbolizes hope, opportunity, and a brighter future for the children.
Tawasimi highlighted that the building has the head teacher’s office, classes, four toilets, and a staff room, which are all well-furnished to provide a conducive atmosphere for learning,” she said.
A graduating student who spoke on behalf of others, Miss Peace Godwin, thanked NAOWA for the opportunity, stressing that empowerment training becomes the window for fruitful engagement in their lives.
In her remarks, the guest of honour and 8 Div. NAOWA Chairperson, Mrs. Meg Ndidi Ajose commended the NAOWA Zonal Coordinator and Wife of 8 Division Garrison Commander, Mrs. Anne Tawasimi for her tireless efforts and sacrifices for making the project a reality.
“We are not only providing a conducive learning environment for our children, but also empowering them with the knowledge, skills, and values necessary to succeed in life.
“I urge instructors, youths, women, and other category of students to make good use of the facilities in the school,” Ajose said.
The Chairperson called on citizens to join NAOWA in its strive for academic excellence, foster a culture of innovation and creativity as well as cultivate a sense of community and social responsibility in the formation.
The event was attended by a representative of General Officer Commanding (GOC) Brig. Gen. S. Adamu and it featured the unveiling of the center by the NAOWA Chairperson and a display of cultural dance.
