Musa Na-Allah, Sokoto
The National Council of Muslim Youths Organizations (NACOMYO), in collaboration with the Sultanate Council of Sokoto and other Islamic groups, has renewed calls for peace and justice in the Middle East as the 12th Sheikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo Week opened in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Speaking at a press conference to flag off the event, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Malam Muhammadu Lawal Maidoki, called for urgent international action to end the decades-long Israel–Palestine conflict.
He insisted that the implementation of a two-state solution remains the only sustainable path to lasting peace in the region.
Maidoki stressed that peace in the Holy Land is critical to global harmony and stability, urging world powers to take decisive steps to halt the ongoing violence, occupation, and humanitarian crisis in Palestine.
He described the continued suffering of the Palestinian people as a failure of global leadership and a stain on humanity’s conscience.
The annual Sheikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo Week, jointly organized by NACOMYO, the Sultanate Council, and other Islamic bodies, serves as a platform to celebrate the legacy of the 19th-century Islamic scholar and founder of the Sokoto Caliphate.
Maidoki described Sheikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo as a symbol of justice, unity, knowledge, and moral leadership whose teachings remain relevant to contemporary global challenges.
He drew parallels between the Islamic reformer’s struggle against oppression and the plight of oppressed communities worldwide, urging world leaders to embrace truth, equity, and justice.
He also called on Muslim nations to unite in defense of innocent civilians in Gaza and to advocate more strongly for peace based on fairness and mutual respect.
Maidoki reaffirmed the Sultanate Council’s commitment to promoting peace, unity, and global understanding.
He further urged the United Nations and other international organizations to uphold international law and protect the rights of Palestinians.
He commended NACOMYO and its partners for sustaining the Sheikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo Week over the years, describing it as a platform that reinforces the Muslim community’s commitment to scholarship, justice, morality, and social reform.
Highlights of the week-long programme include Qur’anic recitations, scholarly lectures, youth dialogues, and exhibitions on the intellectual and spiritual legacy of Sheikh Usmanu Bn Fodiyo.
The commemoration will conclude with a special prayer session for peace, unity, and stability in Nigeria, Africa, and the world.
