Residents and commuters in Jos North, Jos East, and Jos South have received a major boost as the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, flagged off the construction of a strategic road network linking communities across the three local government areas.

The project, which commenced on Friday at Haske Quarters along Fobur Road in Jos North, will connect key institutions including Zion High School, Marysol Hospital and Omega School within the Jos metropolis.

The groundbreaking ceremony, held on March 13, 2026, marks the beginning of what the state government described as a major infrastructure intervention aimed at improving connectivity, easing transportation challenges and boosting economic activities in the affected communities.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Mutfwang said the project goes beyond road construction, describing it as part of deliberate efforts by his administration to promote unity and improve living conditions across the state capital.

According to him, the road network will serve as a strategic link among the three urban local government areas, strengthening social and economic ties among residents.

“By the time this road is completed, nobody will notice the boundary between Jos East, Jos North and Jos South. It is not just about constructing a road; it is about uniting our people, uplifting communities and making life better for our citizens,” the governor said.

He expressed optimism that the project would significantly improve access to residential estates, schools and healthcare facilities while also creating opportunities for businesses to thrive.

Earlier, the Plateau State Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development, Sylvanus Dongtoe, described the project as a clear demonstration of the commitment of the administration to delivering infrastructure that would bring development closer to the people.

Dongtoe explained that communities along the project corridor had faced severe accessibility challenges for years, particularly during the rainy season, adding that the new road network would improve access to institutions such as Zion High School, Marysol Hospital and Omega School.

He disclosed that the road project spans about 17 kilometres within the city centre and has been awarded to Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, a firm he said has the capacity and expertise to deliver the project within the stipulated timeframe.

Also speaking, the Chairman of Jos North Local Government Area expressed appreciation to the governor, describing the project as a long-awaited intervention that would bring relief to residents who have endured years of hardship due to poor road conditions.

Similarly, the Chairman of the Jos North Traditional Council and Ujah Anaguta, Johnson Jairo Magaji II, commended the state government for its people-oriented policies and pledged the continued support of traditional institutions for programmes aimed at advancing development in Plateau State.

In his goodwill message, the Managing Director of Jecon Construction Nigeria Limited, Joseph Ezekiel, thanked the state government for the confidence reposed in the company and assured that the project would be delivered in line with contractual specifications and within the agreed timeline.
