Manchester United have completed the signing of winger Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford in a deal worth an initial £65 million, with an additional £6 million in potential add-ons.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international has signed a five-year contract at Old Trafford, with the option of a one-year extension.
He becomes the third signing of the summer under new manager Rúben Amorim, following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Diego Leon.
Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Mbeumo expressed his lifelong admiration for the club.
“As soon as I knew there was a chance to join Manchester United, I had to take it.
“This is the club of my dreams—the team whose shirt I wore growing up,” he said.
“My mentality is to keep improving every day.
“I’m ready to reach a new level here under Rúben Amorim and alongside world-class players.
“Everyone’s told me about the exciting atmosphere being built at the club, and I’m fully committed to helping United compete for the biggest trophies.”
Mbeumo’s move brings to an end a protracted transfer saga that began in early June, when United submitted their first offer of £55 million.
A second bid of £62.5 million was rejected later that month before Brentford finally accepted the third offer.
During his six-year spell with Brentford, Mbeumo scored 70 goals and provided 51 assists in 242 appearances, establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent attackers.
Last season, he registered a personal best of 20 goals and 7 assists in the league.
“Bryan’s goals and assists record speaks for itself,” said United’s director of football Jason Wilcox.
“His consistency has made him one of the most productive players in England over the past three seasons.
His belief in our vision and eagerness to join us made it clear he was the perfect fit for Manchester United.”
Mbeumo’s departure marks Brentford’s biggest-ever sale, surpassing the £40 million received from Al-Ahli for Ivan Toney in 2024.
Brentford director of football Phil Giles paid tribute to the winger, who joined the Bees as a teenager from French club Troyes in 2019.
“Bryan has been an incredible servant to the club,” Giles said.
“He’s grown into a top-class player and a fan favourite. While it’s always tough to see someone like him leave, the timing is right.
He’s earned this move to one of the world’s biggest clubs, and we wish him all the best.”
Mbeumo will wear the number 19 shirt for Manchester United and is expected to travel with the team for their pre-season tour of the United States on Tuesday.
