Former Deputy Governor of Jigawa State, Ahmad Mahmud Gumel, has been inaugurated as the Coordinator of the Coalition of Opposition Political Parties in the state.

In addition to this new role, Ahmad Mahmud has also assumed leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Jigawa, a party set to serve as the unified platform for the coalition in its bid to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming elections.

The inauguration and formal handing over of the ADC to Ahmad Mahmud took place on Wednesday during a political gathering at the party’s headquarters in Dutse, the state capital.

Speaking on behalf of the ADC state executives, Chairman Engr. Kabiru Usaini expressed optimism about the coalition, describing it as a timely movement to rescue Nigeria from poor governance.

He announced that all party officials, from the local governments to the state level, fully support the coalition initiative and willingly handed over the party structure to the new coordinator for effective leadership.

In his acceptance speech, Ahmad Mahmud, who served as deputy governor of Jigawa State for two terms, stated that the coalition was established to rescue the country from worsening security challenges and deepening socio-economic crises caused by the APC’s misgovernance.

He pledged to work with all relevant stakeholders across the state to mobilize new members and strengthen the coalition’s grassroots presence.

“We will create an inclusive and enabling environment for all concerned Nigerians to join this movement. Our goal is to restore peace, stability, and socio-economic progress to our nation,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Bashir Adamu Jumbo, a prominent leader of the coalition and former four-term member of the House of Representatives for Kazaure, Roni, Gwiwa, and Yankwashi Federal Constituency, emphasized that the coalition is open to all.

He noted that the coalition is founded on principles of trust, integrity, transparency, equality, and patriotism, and assured that its operations will be democratic and inclusive.

Hon. Adamu called on all well-meaning citizens of Jigawa, including conscientious members of the APC, to join the coalition and work towards building a better Nigeria.
