Governor Kabir Yusuf of Kano State flagged off the rehabilitation of 17 dilapidated roads across the metropolitan area along with renovations of general hospitals in the state as part of the ongoing urban renewal and infrastructure development drive.
In line with this initiative, Ma’aji Sumaila inspected ten project sites yesterday to assess progress.
The administration of Governor Yusuf remains committed to transforming Kano into one of Nigeria’s leading cities through strategic infrastructure investments.
Inspection Tour Highlights:
Ma’aji Sumaila commenced the inspection tour at Race Course-Lodge Road, where the RADOC Constitution Company is handling rehabilitation work. The project was later extended to include Dawaki Road, covering a total length of 2.5 kilometers.
At Murtala Muhammad Way, significant progress has been made in milling and overlaying work. The urban renewal efforts at the popular Club Road are also commendable, with rehabilitation covering Club Road, Airport Road, and Ashton Road, totaling 9.1 kilometers.
In the health sector, Annur Links Limited is overseeing the renovation of Waziri Shehu Gidado General Hospital in Bachirawa, Ungogo Local Government. Dr. Ibrahim Shehu, Deputy Chief Medical Director, assured the Honorable Commissioner that the project is progressing smoothly as per the directives of the Hospital Management Board. A community member acknowledged the project as a fulfillment of Governor Yusuf’s campaign promises.
At Kofar Waika-Dandinshe Road, the contractor—previously summoned over delays—has resumed work. The Honorable Commissioner noted significant progress and encouraged the company to accelerate efforts as promised.
The inspection tour also included a visit to Northwest University, where the construction of two mega faculties is reaching its final stages.
At Tudun Yola-Gwarzo Road-Dansudu, ZOEC Construction Company highlighted a critical challenge: waterway encroachment by over five meters, raising concerns about potential flooding during the rainy season. The company emphasized the need for careful planning to address this issue.
The tour continued to Imam Wali General Hospital in Janbulo, where renovations are nearing completion. The Honorable Commissioner expressed satisfaction with the progress.
Additionally, the Commissioner evaluated the renovation and construction of the Printing Technology Institute at Kano Printing Press.
The inspection tour concluded at Dama Road by Ahmadu Bello Road, marking another milestone in the state’s commitment to infrastructure development.
