Luis Díaz marked his Bayern Munich debut with a goal as the Bundesliga champions defeated Stuttgart to lift the German Super Cup.
The Colombian winger, signed from Liverpool this summer for £65.5m, headed in from Serge Gnabry’s cross in the 77th minute to double Bayern’s lead. Harry Kane had earlier opened the scoring, punishing a defensive error with a composed finish in the first half.
Jamie Leweling netted a late stoppage-time consolation for Stuttgart, but Bayern held on to secure their first trophy of the season and a record-extending 11th Super Cup triumph.
After scoring, Díaz paid tribute to his late former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash in July, by replicating one of his trademark celebrations.
The victory handed Kane his second piece of silverware in Germany after ending his long wait for a major trophy last season. Bayern, who reclaimed the Bundesliga under Vincent Kompany, begin their title defence against RB Leipzig on 22 August.
