The Association of Local Government Information Officers in Nigeria has honoured the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, with an Award of Excellence in recognition of his outstanding support for grassroots information development and effective governance.

The award was presented on Wednesday in Abuja, during the association’s annual national conference attended by information officers from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Presenting the award, the National President of the Association, Comrade Jibril Aliyu Bisallah, said Governor Yusuf was selected for his “reformative and transformative initiatives” in strengthening information management in Kano State.

“We have witnessed an unprecedented transformation in the state’s information management system through initiatives such as continuous manpower development, capacity building, enrolment of information officers into professional bodies, and the provision of modern tools and a conducive working environment,” Comrade Bisallah stated.

He added that beyond reforms in the information sector, the association was impressed by the governor’s commitment to improving the lives of Kano residents through programmes and projects, including massive infrastructure development.

“Anyone familiar with Kano can attest to the ongoing projects, road construction, renovation of schools and hospitals, building of bridges, and other critical infrastructure, alongside manpower development in the civil service, enhanced welfare, and an improved working atmosphere for the state’s workforce,” Bisallah said.

According to him, these achievements set Governor Yusuf apart from his peers and made him the unanimous choice for this year’s Award of Excellence.

Receiving the award on behalf of the governor, the Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, thanked the association, describing the honour as well-deserved and merit-based.
