Kwara State Government has revoked the year 2024 signage and billboard licenses across the state, even as it warns that identifications are ongoing and removal enforcement will commence, beginning next week.
This follows the earlier notification on the suspension of all billboard licenses in the state.
A statement on Sunday from the office of the Chairman, Kwara State Taskforce Committee on Illegal Billboards and Signages and Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, said the revocation was necessary, to facilitate the removal of all unauthorized and improperly erected billboards, posters, and light pole banners across the Ilorin metropolis and other urban centers.
It explained that the initiative aligns with the Urban Renewal Program of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq-led administration, aimed at transforming Kwara into a modern and visually appealing state.
According to the statement, no new registrations or renewals of signages and billboard licenses will be processed until further notice.
“This temporary measure will allow the state to finalize a new regulatory framework for outdoor advertising, the statement added.”
It thereafter reiterated further that, identifications of billboards are already ongoing and, therefore called on owners of unidentified boards across the entire state, to remove them with immediate effect, as the Government’s Taskforce is currently identifying non-compliant structures adding that, enforcement will commence next week.
